New Skillshare Class

I have a new Skillshare class called Tracing Paper Tricks: Pencil Sketching Using an iPad for Beginners

I was happy to have the assistance from one of their coaches. It is quite a journey writing, filming, and editing a class. Now I have ideas in mind for a followup.

I watch Skillshare classes when I'm in the studio working on big projects so I like the chance to share my skills. You can watch the preview and also look around for other classes here

Color Gallery

Something I've been working on

I’m working on a series of small paintings arranged by color, hung salon-style grouped around one of my color charts. They are inspired by a desire to create order during these transitory times.  This art is designed to travel with a generation of urban nomads. Each original painting unfolds to hang in each new space to make you feel at home and then folds up to pack easily. It's a satisfying way to incorporate my love of bookmaking and craft with painting and fine art.

I started with green, purposely leaving a few loose ends so I can put the finishing touches on all the colors together as a group. Each color group is a study in how to use the swatches in a painting process and vice versa.  They put into effect the school charts I’ve been making for my classes. Next, I’ve moved onto pink but I’m looking forward to documenting the subtle differences with greys, whites, and blacks as well as the rainbow colors. I can’t wait to have a great big color progression hanging on the wall.

School Charts

Hello Students! Here is what we are working on in class:

I make these charts to use as my teaching aids - like the old pull-down chalkboard charts for classroom use. I'm getting some printed up for sale soon. They fold up like maps and have nice leather and copper closures. They are portable art pieces for our nomadic times when finding studio space or housing requires a transitory attitude. Each one is full of creative prompts, reference material, and just nice to look at when feathering your creative nest.

Nice Press

My book got a couple of really nice mentions. It means so much that they come from women who have been such inspirations to me and run their businesses with such integrity.

Janine from Uppercase Magazine wrote such a thoughtful description. I've been a subscriber for years.

And Gabrielle from Design Mom included my book with some great ones. I've been a reader of her blog since way back when she posted about my turducken craft.
